From Skirt to Toddler Maxi Dress

One of my Christmas gifts this year was a sewing machine. I have never used a sewing machine, and every time I even tried to figure it out I was filled with anxiety. My mom came and stayed with me for a few days and gave me a little help. I can barely sew a straight line, but I'm getting there!

One day while cruising Pinterest I found this picture of this little girl wearing this cute white maxi dress, I loved it, had to have it. The lady sells on etsy and has some really nice stuff, but the dress was very expensive. If it were for maybe a special occasion I could understand, but just for me to have because I thought my daughter would look cute in it...no way.

I dropped it, and moved on. Then the other day I was going through my closet I grabbed this white skirt that is to big for me, and I probably have worn it 3 times in the 2 years that I have had it. I put in on the ground to make a give away pile, I look over and see Ava with the skirt around her as if she is trying to put it on. Then I got a crazy idea...

Not to shabby for only sewing one pillow in my entire life! It also withstands the test of a toddler, I put it on her to check for adjustments, and she was kicking and screaming, I thought for sure it was going to rip.

This is before it was completely finished. This was also the ONLY picture I was able to get of Ava wearing the dress. All that hard work and she doesn't want to wear it!

  1. That turned out so good. My sewing machine always seems to work when my mom is standing over me watching but as soon as I'm on my own I mess up. I think my tension is off but it's probably just me doing something wrong.

  6. That's so cute!
If I had a daughter I would totally do that,
My son doesn't want to wear dresses though lol
That's funny, all the work for her, and she doesn't even care, that's so like a kid.
